Engagement, engagement rate, reach, impression, and view
Understand the difference between interaction, audience exposure, and viewing measures.
Overview
Social platforms use different metric definitions. Read the selected widget’s explanation before comparing numbers from different networks or scopes.
Common terms
- Engagement: supported interactions, such as reactions, comments, or shares.
- Engagement rate: an interaction measure divided by a defined audience or exposure measure.
- Reach: a platform’s distinct audience measure where available.
- Impression: a reported display or exposure.
- View: a platform-defined viewing event, which can depend on the content format.
Play count
A video’s Play count is separate from Impressions/Views and Reach in reporting and comparisons. Use the specific metric label rather than substituting one for another; availability depends on platform and format.
Do not interchange them
Ten views do not necessarily mean ten people, and a rate based on impressions is not equivalent to one based on followers. Missing support should not be read as zero.
Availability and access
Availability depends on your organization access and assigned permissions.
